We hope you will help #WomenLeadTheWay. Making a difference in one immigrant or refugee woman’s life improves the wellbeing of an entire family. Last year’s run was so much fun and raised $5,895! Join us by donating or joining the #WomenLeadTheWay team – let’s show how Canada has strength in diversity!
That $5,895 meant 10 immigrant or refugee women gained access to English classes with childcare and community leadership programs.
When I joined the PIRS Building Bridges Program, I was feeling hopeless about my chances of finding a job without Canadian work experience. I discovered how difficult it is for a new immigrant to Canada to land a job and be a part of a new society.
Being an immigrant with two children, I know exactly the challenges faced by immigrant women here in Canada. A major one is lack of funds for academic or career upgrade or being able to join training programs.
PIRS made it possible for me to join the Building Bridges Program, by providing me a subsidy. PIRS programs are accessible to the most vulnerable because it does not have any barriers around eligibility.
Through Building Bridges, I regained my self-confidence and my practicum as a settlement worker helped me secure my first Outreach Worker job! Now I help other new immigrant women and their families.
Looking back, I can’t imagine what would have been my situation if PIRS had not given me the support and leadership development. Gaining confidence and new skills helped me and my family be stronger and happier in Canada.
You can help us reach our 2017 goal to raise $5,000 for critical programs that empower immigrant and refugee women. We hope you will lead the way by donating, joining the PIRS team, or creating your own running team. #WomenLeadTheWay
