Buy a book, support a newcomer family

Volunteering, giving, receiving… they all connect our community, and make every member feel needed and appreciated.

“Black Bean Brownies” is a story about the adventures of a young refugee girl. It’s based on the true story of Lamar, the daughter of a PIRS Building Bridges graduate, Zena, who also translated the text into Arabic.

Written by Fiona Wu, a PIRS volunteer, and illustrated by Vivian Luong, the first 250 copies of the book were donated to PIRS for our Winter Warmth campaign. The minimum donation for a book is $15 (but we hope you’ll give more), and 100% of the proceeds will fund PIRS programs that help immigrant and refugee mothers stay safe and healthy during these difficult months.

Buy “Black Bean Brownies” for a child in our programs, a meaningful, illustrated story that reflects their experiences, and we’ll make sure they receive it just in time for the Holidays.
