DESCRIPTION:LEAD\n2 online classes/week from October 6 2020 to January 28 2021 \nWORKSHOPS:  \n• Introduction to Inclusive Leadership  \n• Understanding Diversity and Overcoming Stereotypes  \n• Stress Management and Self-Care  \n• Effective and Assertive Communication  \n• Work and Volunteer Readiness  \nThis free program welcomes newcomer women with Intermediate English and an interest in self-development\, community based leadership skills\, and access to information and resources about job-readiness\, higher education and training.  \nONLINE INFORMATION SESSIONS:  \nSeptember 15th (1 – 2:30 pm) & September 17th (1 – 2:30 pm)  \nREGISTER: programs@pirs.bc.ca  \n \nFounders of PIRS recognized early on\, women in their classes who were natural leaders. They were the women people turned to for advice and information. They were women who were eager to find out more and do more. Our Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program was created to help empower newcomer women to gain confidence and become active in their community. \nThrough facilitated group learning\, LEAD gives new English-speakers a thoughtful next step out of isolation and into their community. Classes and guest speakers explore topics such as the Canadian Government\, Health Care\, and Volunteerism. Program content has evolved and continues to do so to adjust to economic and social conditions. \nThis program is designed for newcomer women who speak enough English (Canadian Language Benchmark 5) and are interested in self-development\, curious about job-readiness\, training\, or higher education. \nWomen who take part in LEAD learn: \n\nSelf-awareness\nAssertiveness\nGoal setting and planning\nGroup process and teamwork\nHow to identify obstacles\nTo understand women’s issues \nFinancial skills
