Building Bridges is a program offered by PIRS that aims to provide immigrant women with the skills for their future career plans. Here, Florina shares how she developed not only the necessary skills to advance her goals, but explains the importance of soft skills such as intercultural communication and empathy:
“I attended the Building Bridges program to develop Facilitation and Presentations skills. Through all the topics presented over a course of more than 4 months, I developed more than facilitation and public speaking skills. I gained more appreciation for other cultures as I learned and worked alongside positive, talented and inspiring women from different cultures.
The Program Coordinator, Facilitator and topic presenters were both knowledgeable and very supportive, allowing us participants to be more open and feel empowered.
Since I completed the Building Bridges program, I have continued working with an organization that assists clients in their job search. I do so with more knowledge and empathy for other people from diverse backgrounds.
I highly recommend Building Bridges to other women, especially newcomers, who are interested not only in growing their skills in Facilitation and Public speaking but in furthering their soft skills (such as empathy for other people) and integration into Canadian society.”
Florina’s experience embodies some of the learning opportunities that Building Bridges offers, such as Facilitation, Leadership, Power Styles, and Workplace Culture. In continuing our mission to empower immigrant and refugee women, we offer such programs to turn this vision into reality.
