Overview
Are you a newcomer woman who is interested in working in the early learning and childcare field? Our 3-month occupation-specific English training program can help you prepare for success in your career. We offer 40 hours of paid practicum experience to give you hands-on experience and valuable skills.
Why join
PIRS Pathways to Childcare Careers program is designed to help you:
- Develop and improve occupational English skills specific to the childcare sector: vocabulary, regulations, and job search
- Understand Early Childhood Milestones
- Understand trauma-informed approaches to early learning
- Improve essential and digital skills
- Access information and resources to secure employment in the childcare industry
- Develop pre-employment skills – such as interview preparedness and resume writing

- Employment counseling and connections to work opportunities in the field
- Bus tickets and childcare provided for in person sessions
Who it’s for
This program is for immigrant and refugee women who:
- are permanent residents, convention refugees, protected persons or CUAET permit holders
- speak English at an Intermediate level (CLB 5 or equivalent; online assessment will be provided)
- able to attend all program sessions
- have completed full COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses of an approved vaccine)
- Final acceptance is contingent on the Criminal Record Check clearance.
