The Childcare Leadership Group (CLG), a community of practice of women from diverse backgrounds and regions across Metro Vancouver, interested in leading positive change in the childcare system and advancing gender equality, launched a pledge campaign Enough Talk—Time for Action on Child Care to call on all political candidates and elected officials in BC to commit to universal child care that is publicly funded, high quality, equitable and sustainable. The women were able to collect 50+ signatures of support from their communities and continue to make efforts to change systemic barriers that disproportionately affect immigrant and refugee women in the sector.
This is the fourth cohort of the program, part of the Building a Childcare System that Works for Immigrant and Refugee Women project implemented by the Pacific Immigrant Resources Society and funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada. The initiative aims to empower immigrant and refugee women by facilitating training in systems-thinking, advocacy, leadership, policy making and support to co-design and implement solutions to help shape the childcare system in British Columbia.
